Minecraft - My huge texture pack list /[@▽@']\

Having learned this morning that version 1.3 is only 2-3 weeks away from official release (yay!) I'm feeling pretty Minecrafty, so I thought I'd compile a list of texture packs that I use/have used & love :)
...
John Smith is a 32pix resolution texture pack that has a nice RPG feeling to it, & the detailing is second to none. There are some extra animations added, for example, ore blocks have a shine effect, which I found to be a beautiful touch. There is currently a small range of customisation options available, & the creator has stated that extra options are likely to be added in future :) Personally I would like an extra customisation option for the wool colours, the texture itself is great, but I'd like to try some bolder colours. I also noticed that the difference between certain colours is not distinct enough, ie. light blue & dark blue look too similar. All in all this is a stunning texture pack, it's my current favourite, & I don't see myself switching any time soon :) Get it here >>> JOHN SMITH TEXTURE PACK
...
...
*** 'Gerudoku Faithful' has a similar feel to the John Smith pack, & can be found here >>> GERUDOKU FAITHFUL TEXTURE PACK. We had issues with the original version, if it doesn't work for you, try the 'blue slimes' version instead ;)
...
Faithful (32pix) is quite simply a higher resolution version of the default Minecraft textures. I played with this pack on for quite a while, & had nostalgic feelings of when I first started playing Minecraft. It's a great pack if, like me, you enjoy Minecrafts default textures, but prefer things slightly higher res :) Get it here >>> FAITHFUL TEXTURE PACK
...
...
Last Days (32pix) is a fantastic post-apocalyptic pack that gives Minecraft a completely different look & feel, it's almost as though your playing a different game entirely :p I found myself building bunkers, & racing to get indoors before nightfall (when ordinarily I'm not so bothered) This pack has a great amount of detail to it, & lots of imagination too. One particular aspect that I loved, but some people may not be so keen on, is that many items are completely different from the default, for example, your health bar appears as a radiation metre, & eating reduces your radiation level, keeping you alive. Wheat appears as orange powder that is crafted into pills that lower radiation when consumed. I found the changes to be really fun, they do take some getting used to though. Happily, after a few hours of gameplay you get the hang of things.
If you happen to be a Fallout3 fan, you'll likely love this pack. Throw on the GNR soundtrack, & you've got a blissfully addictive combination happening.
GET it here >>> LAST DAYS TEXTURE PACK
...
...
*** 'The End is Extremely Nigh', though fairly different from Last Days has a similar feel to it. It seemed as though it is not yet 100% complete, but it's worth a look. Get it here >>> THE END IS EXTREMELY NIGH TEXTURE PACK
...
Adventure Time Craft (32pix) is one of the brightest & most cartoony feeling texture packs that I know of. It is based on the popular cartoon series 'Adventure Time', & it does a wonderful job of capturing the whimsical & fun nature of the series :) This would be a great pack for kids (or just the young at heart) The only issue with this pack is that many of the single block paintings seem to be missing, & appear as a blank colour :/ It's not a huge problem, & one that I hope will be fixed in future. Get this pack here >>> ADVENTURE TIME CRAFT TEXTURE PACK
...
...
*** Another bright, cartoony texture pack is 'Jolicraft'. It's a lower resolution pack at 16pix, so it may run more smoothly than a 32pix pack. Jolicraft is beautifully detailed & was my texture pack of choice for a long while, check it out here >>> JOLICRAFT TEXTURE PACK
...
& finally Sphax PureBDCraft! This is a texture pack that many Minecrafters know & love. It is available in a range of resolutions, it's smooth, clean, & very well maintained. Sphax has a comic book feel to it, & all the textures work nicely together, it's a truly awesome pack & well worth a try. The Sphax pack also supports a number of mods, including the ever popular Tekkit (technic mod pack) :)
Why is it not my favorite texture pack? Personal taste is the answer. I do love Spahx, it was one of the earlier texture packs I played with, I just feel it's a little plain, but that's just my personal opinion, give it a try for yourself! Get it here >>> SPHAX PUREBDCRAFT TEXTURE PACK
...
...
...
There you have it! That's my current list of awesome texture packs, I hope you find it useful. Here is a page on the Minecraft forums that lists a good number of texture packs for each resolution >>> TEXTURE PACK CENTRAL, & in the 'Texture Packs' section of Planet Minecraft, you can sort texture packs by popularity, resolution, game version, etc. Check that out here >>> PLANET MINECRAFT TEXTURE PACKS.
Enjoy everyone!

New product: Enviro Clean - Washing powder & pre-soaker

A week or two ago I ran out of soapnuts, & I kept debating whether to buy more or try something new. In the end I took a look at what other products were available & came across Enviro clean. I grabbed a 1kg tub, & I'm pretty happy I did. This stuff has been working wonderfully, I really like the mild citrus scent too :) I've done a half dozen (or more) loads so far & I'm really impressed with the wash quality.
So how does it compare to soapnuts? It has a few major advantages, here are the pro's & cons I have found for each so far...
...
Soapnuts:
Pro's - Cleans well, Pleasant gentle scent, Very basic & natural, Grey water safe, Suitable for top & front loading washing machines, Good for sensitive people & allergy sufferers, Versatile, Good number of washes per pack, very low sudsing
Con's - Over time the natural brown colour of the soapnuts can start to affect light coloured clothes, Grown & shipped from the Himalayas, Slightly more effort to use than standard washing powder
...
Enviro clean:
Pro's - Cleans very well, Pleasant citrus scent, Grey water safe, Suitable for top & front loading washing machines, Australian made & owned, 2 in 1 wash & soak, short simple ingredients list, Easy to use
Con's - More ingredients than the soapnuts, Can leave some white powdery residue if load is too big (don't overload machine, & this should never happen), *no more known as yet*

I really like both of these products, but overall the Enviro clean is winning me over, because it does such good quality wash, & it's a little less fussy to use. I have a soft spot for soapnuts though, they also do a wonderful job, they're completely natural, & I have come to love their natural scent.
Both products can be found at most large health food shops, or online -

Winter walk with voddle Addi

This morning I was finally feeling well enough to take Addi out, I've been down with a cold for the past 5 days ◎x☆...{♯××}┘
I grabbed Addi a 'cheap as chips' doggie coat from a $2 shop to keep her newly clipped little body from getting too cold, & we were off! I think we caught the best of the weather too, seems to be turning cold now...
Here are a few pics I snapped on my phone (I always, always forget my camera... kinda prefer using my phone somehow anyway...)
...
Suspension bridge! I call it the wobble bridge, & it feels really weird to walk on, I love it, but Addi gets tired of it pretty quickly & wants solid ground.
...
New jacket. No compromising you're dignity, keep your head up Beanie! へ(゜∇、°)へ
...
Posing (she wants off by this stage ':)
...
Random pretty pine tree.
...
I also shot a short bit of video on my phone, it's not the best quality, but if you've ever wanted to experience the shear horror of being charged by a voodle in a ridiculous purple jacket, today is your day!
...
...
Have a great day everyone!
I have a few more posts lined up, I've just been a little out of order, but they're on the way!

My first (scrappy as hell) duct tape wallet (゜▽゜;)

Having always had an inexplicable fascination/adoration for duct tape wallets, I decided it was finally time to try my hand at making one ]: )
After spending most of Tuesday looking at wallets online (duct tape & otherwise) I was keen to get started, I got the tape yesterday, & today my first wallet is done.
It's very messy (I'm calling it monsterZero) but it has a certain charm, & I learned bits & pieces as I went, predominately; make sure you have the right tools! Doing things by eye, with scissors just doesn't cut it when you're messing with duct tape, 'frustrating sticky mess' pretty much sums it up >_> So if you're going to attempt this, get yourself a cutting mat, a good cutting tool, & a ruler, & your experience is likely to be far more pleasant than mine ':)
...

aaand the back.
...
I wanted something small & minimal that I could fit in my pocket, plus I wanted to keep things fairly simple for my first attempt :p As I mentioned it's very rough, & kinda ugly (in an endearing kind of way), but hey, for my first try I think it's ok.
I'd highly recommend giving this a go, it's fun, low tech, & pretty cheap. I'm looking forward to working out some different designs & experimenting with colours, images, etc.
...
Here's a 2 min time-lapse vid by 'theducttapeguy' making a wallet, to give you an idea of how it's done...
...
...
BTW, I made my wallet based off of a tutorial made by someone else, it was good, but no where near as amazing as this guys', he's super pro 0_0 I feel like I have a much better idea of how to do it now :p

Get busy guys!

Spreading the vegan love! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Recently I've been floating about the internet seeking vegan resources, mostly online shops, but I bookmarked anything I liked. Here are a few I like the best so far -
...
Vegansaurus - Awesome vegan blog full of useful/interesting/funny info.
...
Vegan Online - A great online vegan shop with a wide range of products, based here in Aus.
...
Kitten Camaro - Lot's of super cool wallets, ID cases, passport covers, etc. Prices are really good, downside is they're based in the USA (as so many shops are) so long distance shipping, not terribly eco friendly(−_−;)
...
Vegan Health - Great resource for vegan dietary info.
...
FatFree Vegan Kitchen - Low fat vegan foodie blog.
...
Hope you all find them helpful :)

My favourite tofu (slightly delayed) + A few autumn photos :)

So last week after I said I would share a pic of my favourite tofu I went to buy some, & after a quick trip to the health food store I came back with everything but the tofu *facepalm* Hence the delay(*/∇\*)
That aside, here it is -
...
...
As you can see from the photo, it's bio-dynamic & non-GMO :D It's also Gluten-free, as most tofu is, but always check the label to be sure!
The thing that really stands out for me, & puts this tofu above all others is the texture. It's firm, but has a nice spring to it, & it's really nice to eat.
So if you spot this brand, definitely give it a try, I give it two thumbs upヽ(´`)ノ
...
Last week on May 31st, I went for my last autumn walk of the year, the following day of course being the first of winter :) Beanie & I strolled around the burbs until the sun was gone & the cold started to set in. I savoured the autumn colours & the cool damp air, whilst Beanie frantically tried to spot a rabbit.
I snapped a few quick shots using the phone on my camera, & a few were quite nice. Check them out -

I hope everybody is doing well [。◕‿◕。]/

Four Ingredient Salad

Threw this salad together last week as a side dish.
I was in a rush & I used whatever I had on hand.
This is the result...

Ingredients:
- 1/4 - 1/2 a pack of Organic Alfalfa sprouts
- 4 Walnuts (fresh from shell) - Coarsely chopped
- A handful of grated Vegan Cheese (I used Edam style Cheezly)
- 1/2 an Apple - Diced (Peeled or skin on, whatever you prefer)

Method:
1. Put all prepared ingredients into a bowl & gently mix :) DONE!

Give it a go (ノ>▽<。)ノ

Cheezly is available from most health food shops. I haven't seen it at any supermarkets yet, but I hope they do get some soon, cause it's pretty good stuff c:

Amazing Double choc Chai Muffins :0

I've been making vegan muffins like crazy recently, trying to work out some good recipes to share. I developed this one using this recipe as the base.

Ingredients:
- 2 Cups of your preferred Gluten-free Self raising flour (I use Orgran)
- 1 Cup of Organic Raw sugar
- 1/4 Cup of Cocoa powder
- 1 tsp of Baking powder
- 1/2 tsp of salt
- 1/4 cup Vegan chocolate chips
- A few Walnuts - Roughly chopped (optional)
- 1.5 Cups of Boiling water
- 3-4 Organic Chai teabags
- 1/3 Cup of Canola oil
- 1 tsp of Vanilla essence
- 2 tsp Apple cider vinegar
- Nuttelex for greasing (Any vegan margarine will do)

Method:
1. Put the teabags into a heat safe bowl or jug & add the boiling water. Stir well & allow the tea to brew until the water becomes luke warm.
2. Preheat the oven to 170 ºC (338 ºF) on fan bake. Lightly grease the muffin tray & set aside.
3. Add all the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl, & stir until mixed.
4. Measure the oil, then add the vanilla essence & apple cider vinegar.
5. Once the tea has brewed, remove the tea bags, & add all the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, & mix until combined.
6. Pour the mix out into the muffin tray, & bake for 20-25 minutes. Once cooked, allow the muffins to rest in the tray for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool.

Makes 12 muffins (´ ▽`).。o♡
These muffins are fairly heavy, but somehow still fluffy too, & they have a nice spring to them :) I plan to keep on experimenting, I haven't tried using egg replacer yet, so it'll be interesting to see how that works out. These keep well for a couple of days, but they're best fresh, so spread the vegan love & share them around ;)

I hope you all like them, enjoy!

The deliciously squishy insides...

Awesome Nori Roll with 'Mock Tuna'. Fresh, delicious & Vegan :D

This is now officially my favourite way to eat nori <3
To make this roll you'll need 'mock tuna' you can use my mock tuna recipe, or try one of these. Once you've got the mock tuna sorted, it's super easy from there...

Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of Nori
- 2 - 3 tbs of 'mock tuna' mix
- A handful of organic Alfalfa sprouts
- 1 small carrot

Method:
1. Wash the carrot, grate it & set aside. Lay the nori sheet shiny-side down on a flat clean surface, & spread out a thin layer of the mock tuna mix, leaving the sides bare.
2. Lay the alfalfa & grated carrot in a line down the middle.
3. Carefully roll it up, & form it into a neat log (this may take a bit of practice) Let it sit on the join for about 30 seconds to allow the nori to seal closed. Slice the roll down the middle with a damp, sharp knife & serve it up :)

You don't have to slice it in half, I like to chow down on the log as is ':) but it is nicer for presentation c;
These travel well, so they're handy to take for lunch, & they're great for picnics & the like too :) Test out different fillings & customise them to suit your tastes, lettuce, almond, avocado, etc are all nice fillings to try.
It's a good idea to include some Vitamin C rich food or drink to help your body absorb the Iron from the nori, & leave out tea & dairy, because these can inhibit the absorption of Iron ;)

Enjoy~

Chickpea 'Mock Tuna' Recipe. It's been a long time coming...

I've made this stuff four or five times in the past fortnight, & each time I'd intended to photograph it & share the recipe, & each time I ate the lot  >_> I guess it didn't help that the battery for the camera went flat... No matter, because I've finally managed to get a shot of this elusive (delicious) food.
This recipe is based on the first recipe on this page, so give that one a try if you like, but the way I do it is pretty similar.
The finished product is referred to as a 'mock tuna', & whilst it looks kinda like tuna, it doesn't taste anything like it to me. There's no cooking required if using canned chickpeas, so it's almost impossible to mess it up.
This recipe does require some veganaise, which of course you can buy if you like, but mayo is pretty easy to make, & homemade is so much nicer, not to mention you can customise it to suit your tastes :) If you would like to make your own mayo, feel free to check out my Vegan mayonnaise Recipe. I use homemade veganaise in my chickpea salad, but if the mayo you're using is fairly basic (no herbs, etc) you may want to add some minced garlic & finely chopped parsley into the chickpea mix to add some extra flavour.

Chickpea 'Mock Tuna' Recipe

Ingredients:
- 1 can of Chickpeas (aka. garbanzo beans, ceci, chana)
- 1.5 - 2 TBS of homemade vegenaise
- 1 medium Pickle (whichever type you like)
- 1 Artichoke heart (whichever you like, marinated, plain, etc)
- 1/4 - 1/2 a small Red Onion
- 1 tsp of fresh Lemon juice
- 5cm piece of Celery
- 1-2 tsp Dulse flakes (Optional. Adds fishy/ocean-type flavour)

Method:
1. Strain & rinse the chickpeas & set them aside to drain.
2. In the mean time finely dice the onion, pickle, artichoke heart, & celery, & set aside.
3. Put the drained chickpeas into a medium sized bowl, & use a fork to roughly mash them. Once there are no whole chickpeas left & the mix resembles mushed tuna it's done.
4. Add all the other ingredients to the mashed chickpeas & mix until well combined.
5. Munch immediately, or whack it in the fridge for later :D

I absolutely love this stuff, & my favourite way to have it is in a nori wrap with alfalfa sprouts & grated carrot (I'll get a recipe up for this asap)
Another great way to serve it is in a cos lettuce leaf, topped with dulse flakes, chopped walnuts & grated carrot ♥ ♥ ♥ (see below)

Enjoy everyone (◕ヮ◕)*:・゚

Vegan mayonnaise (vegenaise) Recipe :)

Today I decided I really really wanted to try a mock tuna recipe, & for that I needed some vegan mayo. My recipe is based of this one >>> vegan mayonnaise, but I changed it up a little :)
Here's how you do it -
*NOTE This recipe requires a blender or food processor* (I used a Vitamix)

Ingredients:
- 1 cup of Canola oil
- 1/2 a cup of Soy milk (apparently other milks don't work as well)
- 2 tsp of Lemon juice
- 1 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar (optional)
- 1/2 - 1 tsp Agave Nectar
- 1 tsp of Salt
- 1 tsp of Pepper
- 1 tsp of mustard (I used dijon, but any will do)
- 1 clove of garlic - Minced
- A sprig of fresh Parsley - Finely chopped

Method:
1. Add all ingredients except the lemon juice & vinegar into the blender or food processor, & blend until well combined. (If the mix gets stuck (which mine did) stop the blender & loosen it up with a spatula to help it blend properly)
2. Add the lemon juice & vinegar while still blending, & the mayonaise will thicken.
3. Taste the mix & add any extra seasonings. Extra seasoning may need to be stirred through by hand if the mix is too thick to blend. And it's ready!
4. Stick your mayo into a jar & refrigerate :)

Enjoy!

Omega 3 Fatty Acids *Vegetarian & vegan sources*

...
Every now & again I have a little bit of random info that I think is worth sharing, so I'm starting 'mini posts'. Today it's Omega 3 :) Lots of people know that fatty or oily fish are a good source of omega 3, but that's not much help to people who don't/can't eat fish.
So, guided by the wonderful book 'Green for Life' I've compiled a few of the richest Omega 3 sources. It's important to check the ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 though, because too much Omega 6 is no good, & many of us will already be getting a lot (maybe too much) in our diet.
...

#1. Flaxseed oil (1 tbs) - Omega 3: 7,196mg / Omega 6: 715mg
#2. Chia seeds (approx 28grams) - Omega 3: 4,915mg / Omega 6: 1,620mg
#3. Flax seeds (approx 28grams) - Omega 3: 6,388mg / Omega 6: 1,655mg
#4. Beans, snap/greeen (1 cup raw) - Omega 3: 39.6mg / Omega 6: 25.3mg
#5. Lettuce, Green leaf (1 head 360g raw) Omega 3: 209mg / Omega 6: 86.4mg
#6. Lettuce, Cos, aka Romain (1 head 626g raw) Omega 3: 707mg / Omega 6: 294mg
#7. Spinach (1 bunch, 340g raw) Omega 3: 469mg / Omega 6: 88.4mg
...
Flaxseed oil is one of the most convenient sources, but you do have to be careful with it because it can go rancid very easily, it must always be refrigerated. It can be mixed into a meal or drink, however it must not be heated or the omega 3 fatty acids will be destroyed.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that there are 3 types of Omega Fatty Acids, ALA, EPA, & DHA. DHA can be an issue, because whilst our bodies can construct it using ALA, people who eat little or no fish may be deficient. There are supplements available, including vegan options.
For more information, check out veganhealth.org.
If you're wandering what the best way to consume a whole bunch of raw spinach might be, maybe check out greenforlife.com ;)

All the best everyone~
